The Philippines, due to its idyllic landscapes of paradisiacal beaches, crystalline waters and vast coral reefs, have in recent years attracted more attention to travellers. Despite its natural beauty, a country is not only made of landscapes, and the Philippines can be proud of its people.
Known for being attentive and for their gentle and tropical smiles, the Filipinos are more than a strong reason for visiting this Asian archipelago. Here are 5 reasons why this is a fantastic people and whom you will fall in love with as you travel the country.
Excellent sense of humour
Undoubtedly this is the most striking feature of these people. Always with a smile on his face, the Filipinos make this country a constant joy. Everything serves as a joke and motto for a good laugh.
There are countless bars and restaurants with live music scattered throughout the country, and as soon as you hear a Filipino sing, you can quickly get it why. It’s in their blood to be good singers. I honestly do not know a single Filipino who, as soon as he starts singing, does not make anyone impressed.
Singing is also part of the good mood I mentioned above. Do not be surprised if the staff of your hostel often sing or someone you pass by on the street or even when you enter a store is singing. It’s good for the soul!
This is one of the characteristics that I am afraid of getting lost as tourism in the country increases. In general, the Filipinos are fairly honest people who will hardly deceive you. The same I can not say about the capital Manila.
In fact, one of the things that impressed me most, and difficult to witness in many neighbouring countries, is the honesty between them when the business is on the table. If there is a colleague who is struggling to figure out what the traveller wants, they come and help instead of attracting travellers to themselves, increasing their business. This is to be commended!
They accept well the differences
Although the current situation in the country is somewhat dramatic in the face of the war on drugs, Filipinos are people who accept differences, be they ethnic, cultural or social. I emphasise the acceptance, in a profoundly Catholic country, of transsexuals who, without any kind of discrimination, are well integrated into society.
Good English level
There is nothing better for a traveller than people who speak good English. Overall, the Filipinos speak the language exceptionally well, which greatly facilitates the discovery of the country. You can easily find someone to talk to and ask for information that is readily available to you.
When travelling in the Philippines do not miss the opportunity to deprive with the locals. You will have humble moments, filled with a good disposition, that will surely be engraved in your memory.
